![]() Ironically, despite a) never usually upgrading in any tech area at the bleeding edge, b) having quite a lot of web development workspace in my old OSX that I would have to reinstall (PEAR libraries, MySql and all the rest to complete a PHP/Apache/MySqul development environment each time I upgrade OSX) but c) being attracted by Catalina's greater "memories" and other photo handling which, on spec, seemed to bring it closer to iOS Photos capability, I was persuaded (by myself!) to upgrade.Īs I said, ironic, huh?! Anyway, here is the email (in additional text) I just sent to Dave, with some additions to make it clearer for this thread. nearly all other posters on this thread had Photos working FINE as I did) before the "upgrade(!)' to catalina. I'm sure 9as a lifelong IT person (I'm 73) that the issue lies in that Catalina-Photos interaction. None of what follows is any criticism of Creative Media, or Dave (or Phil) since i think they are in the hands of Apple's tech folks to get the Catalina-Photos interaction understood and then repaired. ![]() This is an issue with Apple's OS (Catalina) and Apple HQ's inability to recognise or address the issue. I've added some further explanatory material for this post, which of course Dave is already aware of, because he has been very diligent in following up with me (to the extent of have colleagues to call when he has been travelling). Mpolda, here is what I have sent my contact, Dave, at Apple's Creative media group, who has been helping me (as Phil as been helping you). Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that iCloud Photos is not syncing after upgrading your Mac to macOS Catalina. I'm also not sure if this affects other apps like imovie that may have photos or videos from your library.I'll come back and post an update when they are finished. I'm assuming they will eventually because they show when I log into the icloud website. It's taking some time, I have 38,000 photos and videos. One thing I'm not sure of, my photos are still downloading but my albums are not showing yet. You'll see them both in your pictures folder, my two are named "Photos Library" and "Photos Library 2". Afterwards you can keep your old library to go back to or delete it if everything seems okay with the new library. It will re-download all of your library into a second file which in my case is 80Gb, so make sure you have enough hard drive space. It will tell you that icloud photos will be disabled, click ok and go back in photo preferences afterwards and re-enable it. In general tab select "use as System Photo Library". After photos opens, go to photos menu at top and click on preferences. Hold option and click on photos icon and create a new library. Your old library will remain for you to go back to if you choose to, I felt save enough knowing that.Ĭlose photos app. I'm not a pro, so try at your own risk or back up your library/pc before. Got mine to work again by creating a new photo library and then making the new library the "system library" instead of the old one. I had the same problem, icloud photo library stuck on "updating" since updating to Catalina.
